In 2004, the FRA published a Notice of Intent to complete a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the California-Nevada Maglev Project, to include a site specific Environmental Impact Statement which would permit construction of “The First Forty Miles™” in Nevada (EIS).
The FRA is the Lead Federal Agency, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is the Lead State Agency, and the California-Nevada Super Speed Train Commission and the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) are the Cooperating Agencies under a Memorandum of Understanding to complete the PEIS.

To date, the purpose and need statement and the draft alternative analysis report have been completed and submitted to NDOT for their review. The final PEIS/EIS will be complete in the next 12-18 months.
